Barnsley Football Club were receiving problems from unwanted intruders and youth nuisance who were looking to enter the ground and surrounding area with the purpose of causing damage and vandalism.
The club had already received vandalism and graffiti to the car park area and this was becoming a constant problem.
The challenge was to provide a robust proactive solution that monitor the movement of any individuals and prevented intrusion inside the ground but to also provided a high visibility deterrent which sent out a clear message to any potential intruder that they, and their movements, were being monitored.
We also had to be mindful that members of the public and various junior and senior football teams used the clubs facilities in the evening so they needed to access certain parts of the clubs footprint, mainly car parks and training pitches.
By sitting down with the club, we identified the need for a multi layered improvement in their current security measures. The club CCTV system required some updating to meet the latest standards and also additional cameras were required to cover some areas that were “black spots” on the current system.
In addition to this we extended the working hours of the security staff to cover the hours that were most prevalent with intruders. We put in place a more detailed lock and unlock procedure for the car parks and main entrance gates alongside an electronic patrol logging system which assisted our officers both with their personal safety and also in providing a more structured system.
As part of our fully comprehensive service we also provided the club with an up to date counter terrorism plan which covered the most up to date threat and risk data.
The safety of every person at the club on a match day is of primary importance to myself and my team. We’ve worked exceedingly hard on securing the ground and putting plans in place for everybody
